Hi John,

I am attempting to get off my AT&T and Verizon e-mail accounts; don’t know which From address sent me to the spam folder. I own the {Privacy Shield Invoked} domain name, and will attempt to send all future e-mail through one of the {Privacy Shield Invoked} e-mail accounts. I am keeping my {Privacy Shield Invoked} alias for incoming e-mail, so my JJ subscription can remain as {Privacy Shield Invoked}.

[JR: Both messages came from AT&T. Email is PIA. The ISPs want to control it. But, can’t! :-) I’m moving everything to “reinke dot cc” in self-defense. Argh! Ideally, one should have their own domain and use gmail as either a screen box and / or a trailing box. That gives some redundancy if and when the site goes down. But, then you worry what happens when gmail goes own. No easy answer.]

JNews: O’Neill, Joe [MC1970?] chairman of the ICE cotton committee

http://deltafarmpress.com/cotton/oneill-exchange-1231/

Joe O’Neill: cotton’s man in Manhattan

Dec 31, 2008 8:10 PM, By Larry Stalcup Contributing Writer

*** begin quote ***

They didn’t grow much cotton where Joe O’Neill was raised. But there have likely been hundreds of thousands of yards of cotton fabric flow through the New York City garment district only a short distance from where he grew up and still calls home.

And as long-time senior official with the former New York Cotton Exchange, and later the New York Board of Trade, this city slicker has always woven a close relationship with those who grow his favorite commodity.

O’Neill began working at the cotton exchange in 1970 after attending Manhattan College. He knew the cotton futures contract inside and out and served as president and CEO of the exchange from 1984 through 1998.

In 1998 the exchange merged with NYBOT, where he served as senior vice president before retiring in 2007. He was responsible for all aspects of cotton and other products traded, including trade relations, marketing, research and development, making sure contracts kept pace with changing industry products and the development of new products.

Retirement didn’t get him too far from the trading floor in New York’s financial district.

When NYBOT merged with ICE in 2007, he became chairman of the ICE cotton committee which oversees the cotton futures contract. He replaced Don Conlin, a long-time friend of O’Neill and the industry who died in 2007.

{Extraneous Deleted}

Remembering 9/11, O’Neill has seen the best of times and worst of times at the exchange offices. When terrorists attacked the World Trade Center, the NYBOT lost seven exchange members as they were preparing for the day’s trading session.

“It was a terrible day for everyone here and across America,” says O’Neill, who was on a cotton trade mission in India when the Twin Towers fell.

Even though NYBOT’s main World Trade Center facilities were destroyed, it had auxiliary facilities in place and began trading the Monday following the 9/11 catastrophe.

Like the rebound seen after the attacks and the years to follow, O’Neill sees agriculture and the cotton industry getting over the recent slump that followed dynamic prices all in the same year.

“The cotton industry is a very resilient industry and will recover and successfully adapt during these trying times,” he says.

Manhattan College ASCD Student Chapter:

A Beginning

By William Dougherty and Penelope Hunt

*** begin quote ***

The theme chosen for the Manhattan College chapter of ASCD is “Bridges.” Education, like most fields today, is changing every day, and future teachers have a responsibility to establish a foundation for continued “education on education.” Our chapter is viewed as the bridge between training and practice—or preprofessional and being a professional. While in college, future teachers must not only learn the theory but also learn how to apply these theories in the classroom through observation and actual practice. The activities of the chapter have revolved around this theme.

{Extraneous Deleted}

To quote one workshop participant, “There is so much about education to learn, that four years, in many ways, seems too short.” This workshop and the other activities presented by the Manhattan College ASCD chapter are an important bridge spanning the transition from preprofessional to professional and provide the solution to this challenge.

Comment on JObit: 26JUL07 MC1954 Goodwin, John J. by Jack Reddington

Although we didn’t know each other at Manhattan, we became good friends while attending law school together. Today it was with shock thst I learned of his passing in a St. John’s magazine. He was intelligent, witty and sincere; a wonderful person to spend time with. We were lucky to know him.

ENDNOTE: Pardon for a dead hero of Israel

Bush pardons man who helped Israel during wartime

WASHINGTON (AP) – In a gesture of forgiveness for a decades-old offense, President George W. Bush on Tuesday granted a pardon posthumously to a man who broke the law to supply aircraft to Jews fighting in Israel’s 1948 war of independence.

Charles Winters, a Miami businessman considered a hero in Israel, was listed in a batch of 19 pardons and one commutation that Bush issued before leaving for Camp David to spend the holidays. No high-profile lawbreakers were on the list.

Meaningless window dressing. Pardoning a dead man!

He got his reward in heaven.

The Gooferment doesn’t like when you break their “laws”. What a joke. Talk about anti-Semitic, the US Government was part of the problem and part of the solution in the foundation of Israel.

Gooferment: the meme that kills and hurts.
