Pope to have own Google channel with video
Jan 17, 7:58 AM (ET)

*** begin quote ***

VATICAN CITY (AP) – The Vatican says Pope Benedict XVI is getting his own channel on Google.

It says the Vatican TV Center and Vatican Radio are collaborating with Google on the project.

The Vatican’s press office said Saturday that texts and video of the pope’s speeches as well as news about the pontiff would be posted directly onto the channel.

It says more information will be given next week.

[JR: Bishop Fulton J. Sheen, rest his soul, must be turning over. He was excoriated for going on TV with Theology, outreach, and teaching. Catholic school kids HAD to watch; it was on the test the next day. That was unfair. But, the man understood the power of TV. His rebuke led Holy Mother Church to abandon the medium to the secular progressives. Interesting.]

Subject: Thank you for your comment — too much time

Hi RC97:

Too much time! Definitely.

Please don’t send me anything that will make me jealous of the youth. It’s give me too big a case of the “Shouldas, wouldas, and couldas”. (At one time, I had great hopes. Now, I’m just “coasting”.)

I do have about 25 google feeds that drop stuff in automagically. A few RSS feeds tagged to anything or anybody Jasper. Makes it pretty easy.

I saw you using BLOGGER. Not the best choice imho. WordPress on a service provider to capture some revenue might have been better. I’m trying to move now. It’s much easier to start correctly rather than migrate.

Yup, FOWG IT guru. Washed up. 62. Too young to retire (again); to old to be considered. Argh!

WRT to RSS 2 Facebook notes: Too many auto feeds make the S/N ratio bad. You can’t get the message thru. That’s what the drive for personal branding and relationship management is all about. A consistent voice that can be heard.

l8r,
fjohn68

[JR: Well, you have to go to IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, and the various other movie sites. Make a report. Perhaps even put it on Drudge! What an insult. I assume that you blame Rudy for not reading the script. I assume that he had script approval. But you’re the Perry Mason. Could they have done it without his approval and cooperation? How dumb a mistake! Guess Hollywood worries too much about politics and causes to get the facts right!]

Private question. Can you outline how I get started with all this internet social networking?

# # # # #

[JR: I’m always open to helping my fellow Jaspers. I felt this answer was too good to allow to stay hidden.]

Hi {Privacy Shield Invoked}:

Social networking is all about making connections with people across the internet that you can help and who in turn can help you. There’s an adage I quote often: “first seek to help; then be helped”. You can’t wait until you’re pounding the pavement to start networking.

You might want to review the presentation I recently made to the MC Marketing Club @ http://docs.google.com/PresentationEditor?id=drn4mj8_74gwmpnff9

Or visit my “turkey farm: at http://tinyurl.com/lxu93.

Quick steps:

(1) Get your own domain with email, webspace, and a blog. I use http://www.1and1.com/?k_id=9113251 (i.e., 60$/year; don’t over pay).

(2) Begin to build your web presence. With your own domain, use that email. Don’t use a free email service or your Internet Service Provider.

(3) On your new domain, establish: a fun email account, a personal email account, and a formal business email account. (No extra cost!)

(4) Establish a free account on LinkedIn with your formal business email address, and build your online “resume”. Begin to slowly connect with your best friends.

(5) Establish a free account on Facebook with your personal email account, and begin to connect with your fellow alums (like me?).

(6) Seek to help people on LinkedIn and Facebook.

Before you know it, you’ll be a social networking expert. For a deeper dive, there are two great ebooks:
I’m on LinkedIn–Now What??? (Second Edition): A Guide to Getting the Most Out of LinkedIn by Jason Alba (Paperback – Jan 7, 2009) and I’m on Facebook–Now What???: How to Get Personal, Business, and Professional Value from Facebook by Jason Alba, Jesse Stay, Lee Lorenzen, and Robert Scoble (Paperback – Feb 1, 2008)

{Disclaimer: I know Jason Alba from when he was just another turkey. And, I was an unpaid alpha reviewer of his first book.}

WARNING: Be circumspect about WHAT you post and the pictures you post. Digital dirt is forever. And, virtually un-eraseable. You can “bury” it but it’s still there.

If you have specific questions, I’d be happy to “help”.

Jaspers are forever,
fjohn68

Manhattan College Names Dr. Brennan O’Donnell as 19th President
Release: 02/17/2009

*** begin quote ***

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan College has named Dr. Brennan O’Donnell as its 19th president, effective July 1, at which time Br. Thomas Scanlan, F.S.C., will step down from his position after nearly 22 years of leadership.

O’Donnell will become the first lay person to serve as president in the 156-year history of Manhattan College, a Lasallian Catholic institution founded and run by the De La Salle Christian Brothers. The Brothers’ history dates back to 17th century France and their founder, John Baptist de La Salle, designated by the Catholic Church as the Patron Saint of Teachers.

O’Donnell is currently dean of Fordham College at Rose Hill, Fordham University’s oldest and largest school, a college of arts and sciences with more than 3,200 students and nearly 300 faculty. He brings to Riverdale the experience of running an academic unit close to the size of Manhattan College.

“I’m honored and humbled by the faith that the Manhattan community has placed in me to lead this great College in fulfilling its mission,” O’Donnell says. “There is enormous strength and potential here, and I look forward with excitement to continuing and forwarding Manhattan’s long tradition of applying Lasallian wisdom to contemporary challenges.”

“Dr. O’Donnell is blessed to be asked to serve a wonderful student body and to lead a great team of administrators, faculty and staff,” Scanlan says. “In turn, Manhattan College will be blessed by Dr. O’Donnell’s strong commitment to Catholic higher education and his promise to enhance the College’s Lasallian heritage.”

Prior to assuming his current role in 2004, O’Donnell spent nearly two decades at Loyola College of Maryland, where he was professor in the department of English. He also served as director of the honors program (1999-2004), where he oversaw a university-wide interdisciplinary humanities program that enrolls about 200 students under the instruction of more than 20 faculty members from seven departments. His career began as a teaching assistant in the department of English at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1983-1986).

O’Donnell has been a member of the board of Collegium, a national organization of Catholic colleges and universities that supports faculty seeking to deepen their understanding of the intellectual tradition informing their institutions, and is currently a member of the board of the Lilly Fellows Program, which seeks to strengthen the quality and shape the character of church-related institutions of higher learning for the 21st century.

He has experience in faculty recruitment and development, student recruitment and retention, advising, budget planning and administration, curriculum and program development and evaluation, accreditation, strategic planning, fundraising, advertising and public relations.

O’Donnell earned his B.A. in English at Penn State University (1981), and received an M.A. and Ph.D. in English and American literature and language from the University North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is the author of The Passion of Meter: A Study of Wordsworth’s Metrical Art and Numerous Verse: A Guide to the Stanzas and Metrical Structures of Wordsworth’s Poetry, as well as numerous other journal articles and papers. In addition, he is the recipient of various awards and honors.

“Dr. O’Donnell is a highly respected educator and academic administrator,” says Thomas O’Malley, chairman of the board of trustees at Manhattan College. “His natural leadership talents coupled with a deep commitment to Catholic liberal education will positively impact the College’s programs in science, engineering and business, as well as in arts and science. These are among the many factors that led the search committee to unanimously recommend him to be the next leader of the College and for the board to elect him as the 19th president of Manhattan succeeding Brother Thomas.”

Scanlan, Manhattan College’s longest-tenured president, was inaugurated on October 29, 1987. Prior to his appointment, he was vice chancellor and chief executive officer of Bethlehem University, Palestine, a private, independent institution sponsored by the Vatican and directed by the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools.

Under Scanlan’s leadership, Manhattan College has undergone a transformation that has it currently recognized as one of the premier Catholic institutions of higher education in the nation. During his time in office, the College has seen a 120-percent increase in applications and a 100-point increase in SAT scores while achieving accreditations by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business and the Teacher Education Accreditation Council.

Scanlan has raised more than $225 million in two capital campaigns, and the endowment increased tenfold. His leadership led to the construction of the 24-7 state-of-the-art Mary Alice and Thomas O’Malley Library featuring modern accommodations for study and research. Twin residence halls Horan and East Hill were built to accommodate 1,250 students. A new multilevel parking garage was completed in 2008.

Founded in 1853, Manhattan College is an independent, Catholic, coeducational institution of higher learning offering more than 40 major programs of undergraduate study in the areas of arts, business, education, engineering and science, along with graduate programs in education and engineering. MFound: “Skyscraper” Alleyne’s Manhattan College connection
http://cny.org/archive/ld/ld8021209.htm

Catholic New York — February 12, 2009
Rice Graduate Reaches New Heights as Globetrotter
By SOCRATES PALMER Jr.

*** begin quote ***

Skyscraper was a three—time, first—team All—City and All—State selection under head coach Maurice Hicks. As a junior, he helped lead Rice to Catholic High School and New York State Federation titles. As a senior, he averaged 21.0 points, 14.0 rebounds and 5.0 blocks per game.

In 2003, he earned a scholarship to the University of Kentucky. The Wildcats made the NCAA tournament during each season of Skyscraper’s collegiate career, including a run to the Elite Eight in 2005. Unfortunately Alleyne’s Kentucky years were not his personal best statistically and in his senior year he transferred to Manhattan College. As a transfer, he was forced to sit out his senior season. He didn’t play a single game for the Jaspers before entering the 2007 NBA draft. He was not drafted, but attended training camp with the Philadelphia 76ers that year. Alleyne says that playing for an NBA team remains a dream, but he feels that God has put him in a great situation with the Globetrotters.

“I’m traveling a lot and seeing a lot of places,” Alleyne said. “When I joined the tour we started at a U.S. military base in Asia and then went to Japan, Guam and Korea. Entertaining the troops is something very special to me and it is what the Globetrotters are all about, putting smiles on people’s faces.”

The Globetrotters play virtually all year round, but most of their games are held throughout North America from the last week in December through late April. During the rest of the year, the Globetrotters play numerous games overseas and participate in other charitable activities. The Globetrotters play a schedule of about 100 games in the four—month peak stretch, including doubleheaders. Playing that much basketball is fine with Alleyne, who first fell in love with the game while emulating his older brother, Robert, his hero while growing up. “I thought and still think that he was an incredible person, and I wanted to be just like him,” Alleyne said. After watching his brother play basketball for several years, Skyscraper took up the sport at age 10.

Growing up with hate

Sabina Mohsin was born in Pakistan. “I grew up with that typical understanding of this is us, and this is them. Kind of that dual mindset,” she told the group. “I had a lot of anger inside me and it really bothered me.”

She said she knew people in Pakistan who hated both Jews and Hindus, but had never met a person from either background. And it was only when she started dating an Israeli man during her senior year at Manhattan College that her mind began to change.

“Getting to know them as people, slowly, slowly and slowly it started to melt away,” she said, making it impossible to “hate collectively.”

When she first heard of the group, she said, “I literally started to cry…” She traveled from Queens to Riverdale for the meeting on Sunday.

Russell J. Schriefer is an American political strategist and media consultant who has worked on four out of the last five presidential campaigns.[1] In 2008, he directed media and message for former Governor Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign.[2]

After graduating from Manhattan College, Schriefer got his start working for two Republican House members, and was Mid-Atlantic political director for George H. W. Bush in the 1988 campaign. He became a lobbyist, but he soured on the profession after being asked to defend a product that harmed wildlife.[3] He then managed Rudolph W. As founding partner with Stuart Stevens of the Stevens & Schriefer Group, Schriefer has worked with many Republican Governors, Senators, and Congressmen, including Governor Robert Ehrlich (MD), Senator Johnny Isakson (GA), Governor Tom Ridge (PA), Governor Bill Weld (MA), Governor Paul Cellucci (MA), Governor Bob Riley (AL), Governor Charlie Crist (FL), Senator Richard Lugar (IN), Senator John Cornyn (TX). He served as program director of the 2004 Republican convention in Madison Square Garden, New York.[5]

Schriefer produced campaign advertisements for George W. Bush in the 2000 and 2004 elections, gaining notoriety for an advertisement that aired in 2004 picturing Senator John Kerry windsurfing.[6] In 2007, Stevens & Schriefer briefly served as one of Senator John McCain’s media consultants.[6][7][8]

Schriefer also does corporate consulting. [9]

Russell Schriefer is married to Nina Easton, Washington Editor at Fortune magazine and a commentator on the Fox News Channel.[10] He has a daughter Elizabeth Rose, and two step sons Taylor and Daniel.

JEmail: Schlickenrieder, Warren (MC1942) reminds me where Bronxville is

Subject: Manhattan College location

John,

Manhattan College is not located in Bronxville (as was reported in JasperJottings Week 07 – 2009 Feb 15).

Bronxville is a community in Westchester County.

Manhattan is located in The Bronx, one of the five boroughs that comprise New York City.

I am sure you know this, but I felt that a comment on the information that was provided in JasperJottings was in order.

[JR: Absolutely correct. I tried to update the page that had that. It purports to be a wiki, but doesn’t allow updates. By putting the link to them there and here http://plumbot.com/Misnomer.html, I was hoping to get someone to look at their reference and fix it. No luck. I guess it’s just part of the “DEAD WEB”. Up and running, but no one cares. Lights are on, but no one home? Thanks, I should have been more clear what I was saying.]

JEmail: Reinke, F. John (MC1968) recommends the NBC and CNN rejected commercial
Subject: Great pro-life commercial

As you know, I’m always wishing that my challenges be little ones. To match my minimal skills and abilities. Maybe I’ve found one?

Now these folks have come up with a “killer commercial”. IT guys always talk about the “killer app” that just revolutionizes the industry, like Apple’s Visicalc or Lotus’ Spreadsheet. Here’s a challenge that I’ve embraced. I put this on my FACEBOOK profile. That will get the idea in front of a lot of people. Maybe they might even watch. Maybe they will “defriend” me! Even say bad things about me. (Like that’s going to bother me!) That’s a chance I’ll take. I’ll put it on my blog, “Reinke Faces Life”. I’ll plant the flag and let people brand me as a reactionary kook. (Actually, I think “Classical Liberal” might be more accurate. All those Theology and Philosophy courses that MC made the injineers take may have finally sunk in.)

We, as a society, using the guns of gooferment force, may have allowed ourselves to kill the future.

Abortion is the genocide of our society’s future. When you’re in a hole, it’s a good idea to stop digging.

I found this video to communicate the possibilities at a visceral level. The mainstream media has an agenda; I’m not surprised they surpressed it. It might make the sheeple (people who are sheep) think. And as George Orwell pointed out that’s dangerous to the elite.

The suppressed commercial is here http://www.catholicvote.com/; it links to YouTube.

Take 45 seconds and see if it doesn’t move you to think.

(Don’t care WHAT you think. Just that you do THINK. The media doesn’t want you doing any of that dangerous stuff! ROFL!

I signed up for Catholic Vote despite not being a saint. I urge you to do the same.

Here’s their response:

Thank you for signing up to let your friends and family know about our efforts to take back our families, our schools, our courts, and our culture. Together at CatholicVote.org, we are building a movement of people to stand strong to defend life, faith, and family.

Sounds pretty good to me.

But I’m just an injineer!

Comment on ENDNOTE: Catholic Schools get “captured”!
By Fix4RSO

Yep – what’s even more tragic is the fact that Pelosi and the Kennedys are still allowed to take communion. You really find out who truly is Catholic … and you can tell the diocese just wants the cash. It’s sad …

Our parish recently had to Sisters who became US Citizens. Their first act of being a part of this great country: voted for Obama.

Uh-huh … it’s clear … your article is no shock to me … I am far from being shocked as a post-Vatican 2 victim …

Vatican confirms that Pelosi will have audience with the Pope

Vatican City, Feb 16, 2009 / 11:55 am (CNA).- On Monday at noon in Rome, the Vatican’s Press Office confirmed to CNA that Pope Benedict will be receiving U.S. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi in an audience at noon on Wednesday.

Pelosi, a self-proclaimed “ardent Catholic” who has sparked significant criticism from fellow Catholics in the U.S. for her pro-abortion views, arrived in Italy on Sunday for an eight-day official visit.

[JR: Maybe we can pray that the Holy Father had a chance to explain the Church’s position on abortion to this CINO?]
