JEMAIL: Stebbins, Donald M. (MC1961) thinks “universal health care” works

2013-Nov-17

see http://theincidentaleconomist.com/wordpress/physician-fees-and-salaries-in-the-us-and-other-countries/

Dear Jasper John

A check of physicians’ salaries in countries having universal health care suggests they  are not working for slave wages

Especially  interesting is this finding

Quote:

What I find more interesting, though, is the UK. Remember, when you want to panic physicians, tell them we might have something like the NHS in the UK. That’s not a single-payer system (like Medicare), it’s a government run system (like the VA). Yet, physicians make more money in the UK than in all the other (European) countries, even Germany, which has a largely private system. Once again, fear trumps reality.

# – # – # – # – #

[JR:  Interesting. The Jasper Stebbins presumes knowledge of what “slave wages” are. When the Gooferment mandates something, that makes one a “slave” in whole or in part. Further, non free market economies — everywhere other than the black markets — economics teaches that politicians and bureaucrats have a “calculation” problem. Thanks to Ludwig von Mises, we know that without free market prices, no one knows what it the optimum for society. In the case of medical care, how much is enough. How much should doctors, who spend a good portion of their lives preparing, be paid for that sacrifice? No one knows without the truly free market. It’s not about how much they make; it’s about what is their maximum earning potential return on their investment. The limits of human knowledge and understand are obvious in economic terms. Liberals just can’t accept that “good intentions” are no excuse for stupidity!]

JEMAIL: Toner, Mike (MC1972) thinks ” elected representatives” are “ours”

2013-Nov-18

Dear f. John,

What a heartwarming story…. an attractive, young, white woman with a compelling story gets help. I suspect that there are others whose stories might not tug at our heartstrings in the same way, but are also in great need. And did you notice in the story that it said that her sister had pitched the charity site for a year to get the young woman’s story on the site? I imagine that there are many others who wouldn’t have such an eloquent, persevering advocate to get their stories in front of the donors. And how about the volume of need? Are we each going to have to plead our cases and have our fellow citizens decide whether or not to open their wallets.

As a “society” we act through our elected representatives. In the area of health care needs, we can’t just let everyone have to plead their case for charity. We need to act collectively to provide a compassionate, just system to see that everyone gets decent health care. We can debate the meaning of “decent” but that’s not the same as leaving whether one can get any health care to the capriciousness of random acts of charity.

Ahh, yes, “liberal white guilt” coming to the fore.

The essence of the once great American experience was freedom and responsibility.

Voluntary associations grew up in communities to address the needs of the indigent, the unfortunate, and the Irish. Life insurance for the common worker was invented by the Knights of Columbus. After the Great Chicago fire, there was great charity. But not for “freeloaders”.

Insurance, before the perversion of the marketplace, by the Gooferment was something that people did as responsible capitains of their own ship of life. I remember the Metropolitan Insurance agent going door to door in the tenement collecting premiums. Who said that being “poor” meant you were stupid about risks.

Many of the stories we are hearing are about freeloaders, gamblers, and folks with bad habits. When we talk about “health”, “health care”, “health care insurance”, or something else, remember it’s about “control”. When the Gooferment is in “control”, we have immorality, ineffectiveness, and inefficiency. (When I use “immorality”, I mean force; not religious beliefs. But forcing Catholics to subsidize abortion is immoral on both scales!) When individuals make choices — even bad ones — everyone wins.

Finally, the notion that there is a “society” or even more humorous that “elected representatives” are “ours” in any meaningful sense is patently absurd. Try and have “society” do anything. Or even better yet, get “your” rep to represent your view. Just is NOT going to happen. “Crony Capitalism” rules the day. Why do you think Big Insurance is letting themselves be cast as the evil villian in the morality play. Because they know they are going to dump the sick on the public dole and get nice healthy youngsters to buy expensive new policies that they don’t need, want, or can use.

I am astonishes at the fuzziness of thinking around this issue. Quality free health care is easily available. Look at Saint Judes Childrens Hospital. Look at the ERs in any city. The notion that the Sheeple have to guiltily subsidize the mistakes of others and pay the Gooferment to do it is absurd.

Maybe I’ll burn in hell for being a hard ass about this, but I think we have “free will” as given to us by Our Creator. If He can stand bad choices, so should we.

The American Christian Life United Choir – Join in!

Every Christmas, the media and PC police tell us, the Christian majority, what we can do and say to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. If you’ve had “enough” of this biased propaganda and believe in the true meaning of Christmas…now’s your chance to fight back and bring Christ back into Christmas.

As you know, Christmas is being twisted and turned, pushed and pulled by politically correct merchants who enjoy the ride on the Christmas sleigh…but won’t give Christ the recognition and honor he deserves. So, let’s challenge these stores with our wallets…and patronize only the stores that celebrate the true meaning of Christmas.

If we do what the kids say in the song “If it don’t say Merry Christmas in the window…then you don’t go in that store” you’ll be amazed at how fast the word gets-out. And maybe once again, Christmas will become…what it was…and what it was always meant to be, a Celebration of Christ’s Birth!

Each download will be registered as an “authentic” vote for bringing Christ back into Christmas. So, let’s terrify the media, by showing proof positive, that we Christians, all 230 million of us, are sick-and-tired of being the piñata…for every misguided, politically motivated cause!

Download “Say Merry Christmas” today!…make “your” voice heard with “your” vote…and we’ll make “Say Merry Christmas” the biggest Christmas song of all time! Call your “radio station” and ask them to play “Say Merry Christmas” …We have the strength in numbers…

Let’s use it!

JEMAIL: Flynn, Bro. Gregory (MC1957) is feeding the hungry

Dear John,

November 24th, Thanksgiving Day in the States, is a happy day of feasting and gratitude. We in Addis Hope are grateful that our 100 destitute, marginalized children will have at least one hot meal every school day thanks to our generous donor partners. Explaining this is no mean feat, since it is difficult to explain being hungry to some who may think that means being late for dinner.

We are thankful that the Good Lord has inspired our partners to give generously without counting the cost; that their hearts are open to our children who can do nothing material for them in return except remembering them in daily prayer – a great return on any investment. We hope that you will set a place at your table for them this Thanksgiving. Enjoy the blessings of the day!

Can’t have it both ways. Either or!

I want to be free of Gooferment so that I can be more charitable.

I want my charity to be moral, effective, and efficient. That’s why I give to the Salvation Army versus United Way.

The Gooferment can’t “do” charity.
